Following Cork City’s dramatic 1-0 win over BK Häcken, the Rebel Army travel to the Luminus Arena to face KRC Genk in the Europa League Third Qualifying Round tonight.
Speaking to the the media at the club’s training ground in Bishopstown , manager John Caulfield said:
“It’s great, and it’s something for the lads to look forward to. We’re going to Belgium, facing a big club and a higher standard again. It’s a massive challenge to us, but isn’t it a great place to be?”
Heading into tonight’s fixture, City are massive underdogs yet again, a fact manager John Caulfield has rallied his players about for the performance of their lives,
“It is about doing your best and achieving as much as you can. Last Thursday night was an incredible night and that drives fellas on, so they are all looking forward to it.”
City go into tonight’s game on the back of a 1-0 win against BK Häcken, with 9 wins and 1 draw in their last ten outings across all competitions. Meanwhile, KRC Genk will be using tonight’s fixture as another preparation in their preseason.
Unlike City, Genk are European regulars, and have been ever present in European competition, from playing Chelsea in the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League to reaching the last 16 of the 2014/15 UEFA Europa League.
Kick off at the Luminus Arena is at 7:00 pm and the game is being broadcast live on Eir Sport. Alternate commentary is available from Rebel Radio, which features former UCC Express Sports Editor Kevin Galvin, tonight from 6:45pm.
